Shingle
top
Engelmeier Roofing is certified to install shingle roof systems for several top manufacturers such as GAF, OWENS CORNING, TAMKO, ELK AND CELOTEX. There are several types of shingle systems and shingle colors to choose from.
Asphalt shingles, also called composition shingles, are among the most popular types of roofing materials, both for new work and re-roofing jobs. Asphalt shingles consist mainly of a base mat (commonly organic felt or inorganic fiberglass), hot asphalt saturate and coatings, and mineral surfacing materials.
Features/Benefits of Asphalt Shingles:
- Long Life
- Low cost
- Great fire resistance
- If properly installed will not curl or buckle
- Great economical choice for most residential and re-roofing jobs
- Manufactured in a wide range of styles, shapes and colors to fit your preferences
- Adaptable to almost any kind of building (slopes of 4"X12" and as low as 2"X12")
Today, the architectural or dimensional shingle is growing in popularity. The same materials are used to make these shingles but they are a heavier grade and come with a longer warranty.
All of our shingle roofs are:
- Torn off to the roof deck to ensure the construction of a quality roof from the deck to what you see on the surface.
- Our shingle roofs are NAILED and not stapled and installed over one new layer of 15# felt paper.
- Separate options are available with your roof bid depending on your structural needs
- Skylights, kitchen vents and flashings for chimneys or plumbing stacks are optional
- All metal used for valley and eavesdrop is a 26 gage galvanized painted metal
Built Up
Essentially, a built up roof is a custom "product" constructed on the job site; However, roofing procedures vary considerably in different parts of the United States due to the variety of climatic conditions and the materials that are available for use in various parts of the country. For these reasons, roofing must be considered a building trades "art" rather than a precise science.
A built-up roof system is composed of a roof membrane, bitumen and, in some cases, aggregates surfacing. In order to improve the quality of built up roofing, a variety of specifications for the components of a roof system have been established.

Engelmeier Roofing always removes the existing roof down to the roof deck and begins building from the deck up. Our basic built-up roof consists of a 43# base sheet and three plies of fiberglass felt applied with hot asphalt. We then flood coat with hot asphalt and cover with gravel. Any metal used for gravelstop on the perimeter is 26 gage galvanized painted metal.
In addition to the basic system, we can quote prices for the installation of additional products to fit your needs:
- A slope to drain water from your roof to prevent "ponding"
- Drains
- Skylights
- Insulation
- Kitchen roof vents
- Various flashings
Modified Bitumen Single Ply
The modified bitumen reinforced roof membrane system exhibits plastic characteristics. It is composed of composite sheets of roofing materials that are manufactured with modified bitumen and reinforcing sheets. Some reinforcement is normally located at the sheet’s mid-depth. This reinforcement may be in the form of
- Plastic sheeting
- Polyethylene film
- Heavy polyester mat
- Glass fiber felt or fabric
- Combinations
The modified asphalt for these systems contain polymers or special plasticizer, depending on the manufacturer.
Engelmeier Roofing will tear off existing roof system down to roof deck then rebuild from the deck up. We install the modified single ply roofing over a 43# base sheet. Membrane is applied with a modified adhesive. This roof system would include all necessary flashings.
